Date: Thursday, October 29, 2009 An Introduction to JGIS
JGIS refers to Jane Goodall Institute (Singapore). Internationally, the Jane Goodall Institute is well known for its environmental and wildlife conservation efforts. It was recently founded in Singapore in 2007 and thus not many locals are still aware of this non-profit organization. Who is Dr. Jane Goodall? Dr. Jane Goodall is the founder of the Jane Goodall Institute and a renowned primatologist, environmentalist and humanitarian. When she was 23, she travelled from England to Tanzania to undertake an amazing study and understanding of wild chimpanzees. She has spent and dedicated many years of her life to her work and it has now spread to protecting the endangered chimpanzees and the wildlife habitat. Today, Dr. Jane Goodall spends her time travelling around the world. From youths to government officials to the mass media, she gives public talks and lectures while sharing her enriching experiences with the chimpanzees during her many years at Gombe, Tanzania. Dr. Jane Goodall hopes to reach out to youths all around the globe and empower them with the message and passion for conservation and making a difference. Some examples of the projects that the Roots & Shoots groups here carry out include park or beach cleanups, school recycling activities and making enrichment toys for zoo animals. With the Roots & Shoots program, youths are able to make a powerful difference towards the environment and the community. (More on Roots & Shoots) |
